** April 8th – General Meeting Program
————————————————————

** The Enamel Work of Martha Banyas
————————————————————

**
Presented by Martha Banyas
————————————————————
Martha Banyas, the world renowned enamelist who lives in Portland will be giving a talk on enameling for us. She will give the very comprehensive keynote address she gave at the Enamelist Conference two years ago, that is a soup-to-nuts of her art and work. She says it may be WAY more information than we want or need. We doubt that. See her work at www.marthabanyas.com (http://www.marthabanyas.com/Martha_Banyas/Home.html)

** President’s Message – Color My World
————————————————————

By Leslie Zemenek

I’m revealing my age when I tell you that I grew up watching black and white TV. I still remember the excitement I felt the day that our neighbors invited me over to see their new color television, the first on our block. Over the years my relationship with color has been an important part of my life path, in multiple design careers and as a lifelong painter. When I started working in metals, I had to think differently about how I could incorporate color in my creations.

There are, of course, different colors of metal. Many of those metals can change color by virtue of patination. Others, like aluminum or titanium, can be anodized to create brilliant colorization. Recently a number of artists have been using Prismacolor pencils in conjunction with patinas to add color to metal surfaces.

Then there is enamel. The painter in me is very excited about our April program speaker. Martha Banyas creates beautiful, intricate portraits and visual narratives on metal with her expert enameling.

What about you? Is color an important aspect of your creations? If so, what techniques do you use? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page if you like.

Thanks!
Leslie

** CMAG MEETINGS
————————————————————

Are held the second tuesday of each month at 7:15 in room 33 of the Multinomah Arts Center. Guests are welcome! Each meeting includes a general meeting where guild business is discussed, followed by an educational program. Light refreshments are provided.

** Member Profile
————————————————————

Would you like to be profiled in our newsletter? Send me a bio of your work and up to three photographs, and you will be featured in an upcoming newsletter.

** Update from the Spring Show Committee
————————————————————
A digital version of the show postcard and poster are no available, you can download the PDF from our website http://www.cmaguild.org/metalartsshow/index.html. The printed postcards will be available to pick up at the April general meeting.

** Spring Show Gallery
————————————————————
Interested in participating in the Spring Show but not sure if you want a whole booth? Then the group gallery may be just the thing for you. For only $50 you can display three pieces and join the fun. For details read the “Gallery Call for Entries”.

** Silent Auction
————————————————————
Another way anyone can help with the show is to donate a piece to our silent auction. These pieces will be on display near the gallery and customers can bid on them throughout the three days. The proceeds are split between helping pay for show expenses and establishing a member scholarship fund. Just get your piece and a donation form to Mandy Allen before the show.

** Last Call for CASA beads
————————————————————

Now is the time to start thinking about a very important subject: What bead will you make this year for our CASA neckpieces? Our theme remains Hearts, Homes and Kids.

In addition to the support we give to this local charity, our neckpieces serve to get CMAG noticed by the community. There are donors who go to these events specifically to see the new CMAG pieces. These people are collectors; there have been actual bidding wars! Everyone who sees our pieces recognizes our name, CMAG, and they usually turn up at our Spring Show to purchase work by the people who made the beads.

MAKE THOSE BEADS! REMEMBER: Beads must be smaller than 1″ cubic, and they must have a hole at least 3mm in diameter. NO BEAD IS TOO SMALL!

If you have a bead or if you have questions, please call Mary Wong at (503) 452-1939 or mary@triosstudio.com (mailto:mary@triosstudio.com) .

Thank You!

The event, which will run Oct. 1– Nov. 30, 2014, will showcase the vast range of talent and creativity present in metalworking to date. In conjunction with Metal-Urge, Tacoma Arts Museum and Seattle Metals Guild will host two major metal arts events. The central maple case is 18″ x 48″ with lights inside and three lights over the top to shine in the case and also on the pedestal. The case has sliding glass doors on the back that lock. The back of the stand has a drawer and storage doors that lock. All fits within a 10 ‘ space. Everything breaks down for transport to shows.

CMAG Needs You!
————————————————————
Contributed by Michele Lukowski
The Creative Metal Arts Guild has been around for over 20 years, connecting artists with each other and providing opportunities for networking and growth.
I often hear that CMAG is all about the Spring Show, or that there are many things we used to to but are no longer doing.

One of the challenges the organization has faced in the last few years is the lack of participation by members. We have over 100 members in our organization and some people participate a lot. There have recently been a number of changes – a new president, new board members, and new volunteers. Those of us who are volunteering and serving on the board are excited about these upcoming changes and hopeful that we can get more members and more people participating in the guild.

We are looking for new ideas and ways to make the guild more useful to the members. If you have ideas or want to contribute, please consider coming to a board meeting and offering your ideas or thoughts on how we can improve.
